Marc Douek, PT, MPT

Founder, B.E.S.T. Physical Therapy

Marc is a native of Delaware and completed his undergraduate degree at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He then returned home and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from the number 1 ranked physical therapy program at the University of Delaware. Marc’s experience in the allied health field has provided him with a strong emphasis in sports medicine and orthopedics as well as a special interest in manual physical therapy. Marc emphasizes movement, form and fitness with a rapid return to physical activity and sport as his primary treatment philosophy. Looking at the entire patient as a whole cannot be overstated or overlooked; correction of form and muscle imbalances are crucial to not only recovering from injury but preventing them from happening.

Marc is Functional Dry Needling Certified as well as trained in the McKenzie Method, Maitland Approach, Mulligan, and core training with postural restoration techniques. His treatments and philosophies are also influenced through his learnings of Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM), Kinesio Taping, Functional Movement Screening (FMS), and instruction by the Titelest Performance Institute (TPI).

Over his career Marc has worked closely with many athletes ranging from current and former professional athletes in the MLB, NFL, NBA, NCFC and NWSL, European Professional and International soccer stars, as well as numerous collegiate athletes. He has expansive experience and training with collegiate and Olympic level gymnasts and National Championship cheer; he has even been consulted for publication.

Marc also has extensive training with Parkinson's Disease, Fibromyalgia, Neurologic, Stroke injuries, and cardiac rehabilitation as he worked in one of the top Traumatic Brain Injury and Rehabilitation units in Baltimore, Maryland prior to moving to Raleigh.

Marc's wife Abby Douek, MPT, PT,  is a highly successful physical therapist with her own practice, Run Raleigh Physical Therapy.  She is critically acclaimed and one of the foremost running physical therapists out there; this relationship allows for a unique partnership for treating patients between B.E.S.T. Physical Therapy and Run Raleigh Physical Therapy.

His Interests outside of work include his family, soccer, tennis, golf, mountain biking, surfing, skiing, and obstacle course racing.

Brian Gentile, PT, MPT

Co-FOUNDER B.E.S.T. Physical Therapy

Brian Gentile, M.P.T. graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.S. in exercise science and received his physical degree from Western Carolina University. His graduate research explored the effects of custom made foot orthotics on postural sway. He is currently interested in foot biomechanics and orthotics prescription. He utilizes manual therapy skills and functional strengthening to promote healing and a safe return to activities.

Brian is Functional Dry Needling Certified as well as trained in the McKenzie Method, Maitland Approach, Mulligan, and core training with postural restoration techniques. Megan Grable, PT, DPT, CDN

Clinic Director - North Raleigh

Megan recently moved to the Raleigh area from Richmond, Virginia. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Virginia Tech in 2006, and continued to Old Dominion University to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2010. She has been practicing in outpatient medicine for over ten years, and is also Certified in Aerial Yoga Trapeze with a focus on Suspension – Decompression Spinal Therapy.  

Working as a Doctor of Physical Therapy in outpatient orthopedics and sports rehabilitation has provided Megan substantial background in manual therapy with joint mobilization, cupping, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Massage, sacroiliac joint reduction techniques, run and gait analysis, custom orthotic fabrication, Kinesio Taping, and return-to-sport rehabilitation. She has immersed herself into continuing education classes to better develop her diagnosing skills for all pathologies beyond her doctorate. She has most recently earned her certification in dry needling to better assist her patients in returning to full function. Her passion for work comes from going beyond the symptoms and correcting the source of pain with a hands-on approach to improving patient function.

Outside of work, Megan enjoys being an Aerial Yoga Instructor, being outdoors, and spending time with her rescue dog and local family.

Joseph Villecco, PT, DPT, OCS

Clinic Director - Cary

Joe earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from SUNY Upstate Medical University. He earned his Bachelors of Science degree in Biology from SUNY Oneonta where he also became an ACE Certified Personal Trainer. Joseph is originally from Binghamton, NY and, as such, is perfectly suited for the Cary area!

Joe is a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy (OCS) and completed his Orthopedic Residency through Evidence In Motion in 2018. Orthopedic Clinical Specialists are experts in evaluating and treating musculoskeletal conditions; a distinguished honor that is shared by less than 5% of all physical therapists in the United States.  He is also an experienced Myofascial Trigger Point Dry Needling provider.

Joe places a strong emphasis on a holistic approach to patient care. He emphasizes the use of manual therapy techniques (joint mobilizations, dry needling, manipulations, massage, etc) to decrease pain as well as improve mobility to allow for the most effective use of corrective exercise. Joe enjoys incorporating education on sleep, nutrition, and stress management into his sessions to help make an impact beyond just resolving a client’s pain. He truly loves to see his clients leave the clinic more resilient and with a higher quality of life than they had prior to their original injury!

 
Joe has been an athlete throughout his life, playing primarily baseball and soccer. He has also participated in bodybuilding, CrossFit, obstacle racing, running, and, most recently, competing in power lifting. Joe won the 74kg weight class at the USAPL NC State Championship in 2019. He enjoys spending time with his wife and dog, watching a good Netflix series, drinking a nice craft beer, and traveling to new places when he has the time!

Stephanie Brunner, PT, DPT, CDN

Clinic Director - Downtown and Sports Performance Center

Stephanie graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.S. in Exercises Science, and then went to Wingate University to get her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.

She wanted to be a PT after having knee surgery in high school. She grew up in North Carolina and moved to Colorado following graduation and worked for several years at an outpatient PT clinic, but moved back to NC to be closer to family.

She enjoys treating sports injuries and concussions, as well as general orthopedic injuries. She is certified in Trigger Point Dry Needling and uses it in addition to exercises focused on correcting the cause of pain in order to get her clients back to the activities they enjoy.

Stephanie loves being outdoors and can frequently be found snowboarding, running, or hiking with her husband and dogs.

Marisa Lee, PT, DPT

Marisa was born and raised in North Carolina. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2012. She continued her graduate education at East Carolina University and received a Doctorate in Physical Therapy soon after.

Marisa enjoys working closely with patients of all ages and injuries to help them reach their own personal goals.  Marisa incorporates manual therapy such as joint mobilizations, Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, dry needling, cupping, and Kinesio Taping within her treatments to further her patient’s rehabilitation.  She has clinical experience in outpatient orthopedics and vestibular rehabilitation, and works with patients to return to sports and work, improve on balance, addressing vestibular impairments, and improving overall movement and quality of life.

In her free time, Marisa enjoys spending time with her family and friends, being outdoors, trying new recipes, traveling, and staying active.

Brittany Young, PT, DPT, OCS

Brittany completed her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY in 2017.  Previously, she completed her Bachelors of Science in Biology from State University of New York at Geneseo, where she also participated in collegiate women’s soccer.

Brittany has advanced training as a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, a title held by less than 5% of therapists.  She also completed an Orthopedic Residency and had the privilege of training under multiple Fellows who have helped to shape her practice into a balance of using best available evidence and patient values.  She practices with a modern approach to treatment, focusing on the body as a whole unit in order to help patients meet their individual goals quickly. Brittany utilizes up-to-date manual therapy techniques such as functional dry needling, joint mobilizations/manipulations, and soft tissue massage alongside corrective exercises to assist in restoring functional movement patterns. She is an avid researcher and loves to stay current on the most recent PT literature to assist in helping patients get better faster.

Brittany also has advanced training on persistent pain, and has incorporated education on sleep hygiene, physical activity, nutrition, and stress management techniques.  She experiences great enjoyment in working with patients of all ages, from high school athletes to older adults who have difficulty with balance and mobility.  She is particularly passionate about educating patients on techniques that can help patients beyond their current injury or ailment and prevent future flare ups or recurring injuries from returning.

Outside of the clinic, Brittany enjoys being outdoors, which can include golfing, cycling, or playing any group sport like spikeball.  Equally enjoyable to Brittany, she can also be found lounging around and relaxing.  Brittany loves food and is often talking about new places to try some good eats!

Holly D. Chapin, PT, MPT, PRPC

Holly received her Master’s degree in Physical Therapy and BA in Psychology both from the University of Delaware.  She has been practicing Physical Therapy since 2002 with a strong focus on manual therapy and dysfunctions of the spine, hip, pelvic girdle and pelvic floor.

Holly has honed her manual skills in Orthopedics and pursued a specialty in Pelvic Floor Dysfunctions through extensive course work such as Maitland Approach, Mulligan Concept, Strain/Counterstrain for Pelvic Pain, Myofascial Release and Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation.

While pursuing her expertise in Pelvic Floor dysfunction in California, Holly collaborated with the Medical Director of Advanced Gynecological Surgery at Scripps Memorial Hospital to develop a Pelvic Health Rehab Group.  She was also a member of the Pelvic Floor and Sexual Medicine group through the Institute for Sexual Medicine at Alvarado Hospital.  She participated in and led programs to educate the community about the role of physical therapy in the management of pelvic health issues such as incontinence, pelvic pain and pregnancy related/post-partum concerns.

Holly has earned her Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certificate (PRPC) through the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Rehab Institute.

This certificate is to recognize expertise in the treatment of patients of any gender and age experiencing pelvic pain, pelvic girdle dysfunction, conditions of bowel, bladder, and sexual dysfunction that relate, in whole or in part, to the health and function of pelvic structures and the pelvic floor.

Sarabeth Ford, DPT

Sarabeth was born and raised in Rochester, NY before moving to Florida, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance and was a collegiate swimmer.  She continued her graduate education at Duke University, where she earned her Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree in 2016. Sarabeth is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and a USA Triathlon Level 1 certified coach.

Sarabeth just moved to Raleigh from Scottsdale, AZ, where she had experience treating a wide array of patients, including youth athletes, Olympic triathletes, NFL/NHL players, and recreational athletes. She also had the opportunity to work closely with professional coaches to devise strength/training plans for elite/professional athletes. She also worked as a triathlon and swim technique coach.In the clinic, Sarabeth enjoys working closely with patients to come up with the most appropriate and effective treatment for them as an individual. She incorporates dry needling, cupping, and other manual therapy techniques within her treatments and utilizes her strong background in strength and movement training to enforce new movement patterns. She places a strong emphasis on injury prevention and performing quality movements.  

Outside of the clinic, Sarabeth enjoys spending time with her fiance and their two dogs, a shiba inu and a red heeler. They like going hiking, camping, and trying out new restaurants and breweries. She enjoys participating and spectating triathlons, and has completed all distances from sprint triathlons to an Ironman.

Scott Peters, PT, DPT

Scott Peters is the Medical Research Coordinator and  Assistant Physical Therapist for the Toronto Blue Jays.  He previously has been a Master Personal Trainer for Duke University and was the game day assistant for the Carolina Hurricanes. Scott is a postural specialist.

Alisha Peters, PT, DPT

Alisha received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Duke University in 2017. Prior to that, she was a 4-year collegiate athlete, earning two varsity letters from the University of Georgia and two from Grand Valley State University, where she graduated with a B.S. in Clinical Exercise Science. Alisha is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, USA Weightlifting Level 1 Sports Performance Coach, CrossFit Level 1 Trainer, and Precision Nutrition Level 1 coach. She is currently pursuing her Precision Nutrition Level 2 certification.

 

Alisha recently moved to the Raleigh area from Florida, where in addition to practicing physical therapy she also directed the CrossFit Kids program at CrossFit Manta Ray and coached club volleyball. She is currently coaching with NC Elite volleyball club.

 

Alisha is passionate about helping others improve their movement quality to allow for lifelong participation in sports and physical activity. Her treatment approach includes dry needling and other manual therapy techniques as well as progressive corrective exercise to enable her patients to return to their optimal level of function.

 

Outside of work, Alisha enjoys participating in a wide variety of fitness activities, including running, biking, swimming, CrossFit, and yoga. She has completed multiple half marathons and recently finished her first sprint triathlon. She also loves spending time with her husband and golden retriever puppy, the newest addition to her family.

Ella Schwochert, MPH, RDN, LDN, CSCS

Ella grew up in Florida and was fortunate enough to play soccer in high school, in college at Florida State University, and then overseas professionally. After interning in the athletic departments of FSU and NC State, she landed an internship in the sports nutrition department at the University of Virginia. Here is where she learned how to translate her nutrition science background into real life application. Ella's focus is on intuitive eating, a movement with a shift away from the “diet” mentality and a shift toward getting in tune with your body.

Shaina Byler, Practice Manager

Shaina is from Mooresville, NC. She is responsible for all of the behind the scenes work that makes the rest of us look good.  If you need help with anything or have questions that need to be answered, Shaina is the one to contact.  When not managing the practice, Shaina enjoys working out and spending time with her family and pets.
